Gaslighting is something a lot of people have experienced, without knowing it’s a thing. I’ve had a rather interesting experience with it – and I thought it was important to share the characteristics of this behavior, so people know that they are not alone, and that it’s definitely not something that they did. According to Psychology Today, Gaslighting is a form of persistent manipulation and brainwashing that causes the victim to doubt her or himself, and ultimately lose her or his own sense of perception, identity, and self-worth. The term is derived from the 1944 film Gaslight, in which a husband tries to convince his…

Life is bigger It’s bigger And you, you are not me The lengths that I will go to The distance in your eyes Oh no, I’ve said too much I set it up Dear Self – You’re taking on a lot right now. You’re confident in your actions. You’re moving in the right direction. You’ve  made decisions. and you’re sticking with them  – it’s the only way to make a change. You must keep making plans, evaluating and changing them, and continuing to make decisions. They are not always the right ones.  It’s going to get tough, you’re going to…

So – it’s April. in Maine, spring has sprung, and that means 3 months ish till summer. Fortunately, 3 months is JUST enough time to start burning off all of your winter indiscretions. I’m back on the no drinking during the week bandwagon, and I’ve finally bit the bullet and joined a CrossFit gym, because I cannot be trusted. (Side note – this motivates me – just do what motivates you! but whatever you do – just do something 🙂  For the record – I’ve participated + enjoyed ALL of these trainers/gyms and  I recommend them highly – Union Street…

This has been a brutal week for our house and home! First off we had a record breaking snow storm on Monday -record snowfall in a 24 hour period! Literally – our snowbanks outside our house are as tall as me and I’m 5’2″. Link to more info regarding snowfall

Then – on Tuesday – I could NOT go to sleep – I felt super funky. I watched the Santa Clarita Diet with my girl Drew Barrymore – (a very unique and hilarious show) and I of course thought I had what she has (you’ll have…

So – anyone who knows me, KNOWS I am not a morning person. It is NO SECRET. My good friends know to tell me that they want me somewhere 15 – 30 minutes prior to when they actually want me there. As long as I wake up on time, it works like a charm. Key words being “As long as I wake up on time”.  As I sit here starting to write this, it’s because I have some extra minutes this morning because of a failed morning workout plan. (Hey – I got up. Baby steps.) For as long as I…

Morning Tips from a not so morning person. I’m doomed, I think often. I’m chronically a completely hot mess in the morning – I try to open my door with my car key fab, I make coffee with no cup, I forget to feed my cats (thank goodness they remember to chirp at me) and time flies at a rate faster than the speed of light in the am. I’ve accepted the fact that I will NEVER be a morning person, my brain doesn’t really function until 9 am and the second cup of coffee, and to be honest I…

Link to article If you want to get anything done, there are two basic ways to get yourself to do it. The first, more popular and devastatingly wrong option is to try to motivate yourself. The second, somewhat unpopular and entirely correct choice is to cultivate discipline. This is one of these situations where adopting a different perspective immediately results in superior outcomes. Few uses of the term “paradigm shift” are actually legitimate, but this one is. It’s a lightbulb moment. What’s the difference? Motivation, broadly speaking, operates on the erroneous assumption that a particular mental or emotional state is necessary to complete…

Reminders For Your Heart Link to Elephant Journal You can’t build anything without starting at the bottom (or, many times, even further below). How you fuel the fire determines the quality and duration of its glow. Being afraid has a purpose; being brave has a bigger one. Being brave has nothing to do with not being afraid. Being brave almost always means that you are, in fact, afraid. The bigger picture is always made up of smaller ones. The truth sounds the same in a whisper as it does in a scream. Your definition of love is the only one that matters. The most…
