I got a tattoo this month. An entrepreneur tattoo. On purpose. And with meaning. I’d been thinking about what I wanted for my tattoo for years. I have one, from college – my zodiac sign, but it’s on sideways. (Not on purpose.) I’d been planning out a lotus flower tattoo with my friend Sarah – and that one will come. But – I’d decided on getting some coordinates to a place that was VERY meaningful to me. And I’d found just the right person to do it. If you’ve been following me for a while, you might have noticed that…

Gaslighting is something a lot of people have experienced, without knowing it’s a thing. I’ve had a rather interesting experience with it – and I thought it was important to share the characteristics of this behavior, so people know that they are not alone, and that it’s definitely not something that they did. According to Psychology Today, Gaslighting is a form of persistent manipulation and brainwashing that causes the victim to doubt her or himself, and ultimately lose her or his own sense of perception, identity, and self-worth. The term is derived from the 1944 film Gaslight, in which a husband tries to convince his…

Hey all! It’s been a pretty crazy few months, I’ve been tackling a load of projects and since this is kind of my “I do it for myself” page, it gets pushed to the bottom of the barrel. However, I’ve learned a few important lessons in the past few months about taking risks, being rejected, and realizing what you think you want is not really what’s best, and I thought it was a good message to share –  I know DD from 10 years ago would love to hear what I am about to say. This is been an interesting…

We’ve been having a lot of discussions about effective communication in our workplace this month. I think it’s important to have that discussion in general, in all aspects of your life and your interpersonal relationships – to check in and make sure you are getting the most out of your time here on this planet. It doesn’t always go so well – because understanding people’s love languages + personalities is something that is very difficult to understand- however with a little love + understanding, these are things that can be overcome. Me personally, I am a people pleaser, a keeper…

It’s been a relatively heavy week in our community – the suicide of a local weatherman has devastated a lot of people. Happiness and relative happiness is something I think about often – and how other people treat you and how you treat yourself can have impact that cuts so deep. I recently started watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix – it’s a beautiful, haunting piece of art that tells the story of a teenage girl’s suicide and the experiences that lead her down this path. If you have known me for a while, you’re aware that my life has…

You know I love a good book review! I discovered this book when my friend Jodi posted an assortment of books available at one of my favorite stores in Downtown Bangor – Good Soul! I arranged a time to come down and check out the selection with my dear friend & shop owner, Tracy. Tracy has a heart of gold, and a wild, caring, wonderful soul. We connect on so many levels! Anyways, I didn’t end up with the book that Jodi posted, but I did end up with an amazing journal of self reflection! (and the book The Secret…

Morning Tips from a not so morning person. I’m doomed, I think often. I’m chronically a completely hot mess in the morning – I try to open my door with my car key fab, I make coffee with no cup, I forget to feed my cats (thank goodness they remember to chirp at me) and time flies at a rate faster than the speed of light in the am. I’ve accepted the fact that I will NEVER be a morning person, my brain doesn’t really function until 9 am and the second cup of coffee, and to be honest I…

Tea Wisdom and Life Planning Today was AWESOME and super inspiring.  I’ve been re-evaluating my life and goals lately, and today’s walk in the woods got me back down to basics and was a great start to refocus and come up with a plan. For more on today’s adventure head on over to LoveMaineAdventures.com  My biggest struggle has been that I have been so stressed out, all I have wanted to do was come home, sit on my cozy chair and snuggle my cats, drink wine, and edit photos. Now, however my wedding season is coming to a close, and…

AH! I love Tony Robbins. and I love this article he posted. “Instead of Uber, think of Netflix. When Netflix started, Blockbuster thought it seemed insignificant. Who would want to wait for DVDs to arrive? Blockbuster didn’t anticipate where the future of watching movies was going; when Netflix came to them to sell their business and Blockbuster declined. If Netflix had started out targeting Blockbuster’s core market, it’s likely the video rental giant would have launched “a vigorous and perhaps successful counterattack,” explains Christensen. But because of the time that disruption requires, Blockbuster didn’t realize it was under threat until…

I love this article. It opened up a lot of conversations for me – and gave me a bit of insight into myself and I needed to share. It’s interesting how we are all manipulative to ourselves and we are not aware. I hope this opens up some conversation for you! Link to Elephant Journal “When we were growing up, we were taught that certain behaviors were “good” and certain behaviors were “bad.” We learned that the “good” behaviors resulted in our parents loving and approving of us, and “bad” behaviors resulted in disapproval and feeling unloved. For us small, sensitive children,…
