This has been a brutal week for our house and home! First off we had a record breaking snow storm on Monday -record snowfall in a 24 hour period! Literally – our snowbanks outside our house are as tall as me and I’m 5’2″. Link to more info regarding snowfall
Then – on Tuesday – I could NOT go to sleep – I felt super funky. I watched the Santa Clarita Diet with my girl Drew Barrymore – (a very unique and hilarious show) and I of course thought I had what she has (you’ll have to watch and find out!) and then right as I started to go to bed, I started feeling super ill and there might have been a bit of well, for lack of a better description, getting rid of the evil – from my mouth to the toilet. I had a bit of a rash and took some benadryl to calm myself and get rid of the funk and slept for like 15 hours. When I woke up, I needed to have a serious detox, so I went through my charcoal routine. This also works well after a weekend of heavy drinking 🙂
STEP ONE: TAKE A SHOWER. Wash yourself in charcoal soap and use a charcoal mask to draw all of the toxins out of your body. If you take baths – Epsom salt and charcoal is a good mix. Here’s a link to a bath I am looking forward to trying in the future !
This is the Charcoal and Black Sugar Polish Mask but I am cheap. This one is $2.49. Ulta, Sephora, etc sell them also. But seriously. Charcoal is from the Earth.
Leave both on for 8 – 10 minutes in the shower. Just stand there. and wish the toxins out of your body with SUPER HOT WATER.
STEP TWO: Rinse. HAHA! dry, Do I need to tell you that? Lotion. PJs. Get cozy. Your face should be bright red, because it’s been expunging the nasty from your system. Give it some nice heavy cream. I use some basic Vitamin E Cream but you can use whatever you like! I leave it on my skin and let it absorb.
STEP THREE: Brush your teeth in it. No – seriously. It helps get rid of coffee/red wine stains amazingly. Fortunately I only drink white wine. But I keep some Nature’s Way Activated Charcoal in my bathroom drawer – I break a pill apart in to a plastic bag in my drawer, then I brush my teeth, wipe them clean w/ some toilet paper, then spread the charcoal all over them and let it soak all the funk out. Then brush + wash. Full disclosure – I totally make a mess. but it washes out of everything easily.
STEP FOUR: Charcoal Pills, Detox Tea, and Apple Cider Vinegar.
Nature’s Way Activated Charcoal -You know those pills you broke apart for your teeth in Step three? and how they got all the funk out of your teeth? They are about to do the same for your insides. Take 1 pill if you’re good, 2 pills if you’re bad. These work very well for stomach funk and also hangovers, if you take them right before bed.
Detox Yogi Tea – Yogi teas are my fave. I am currently working on the Dandelion detox tea. They give you a great little boost.
Apple Cider Vinegar – AKA known as ACV – it’s pretty amazing stuff. It really gets the funk out – but you HAVE to chug it. Mix it – 1 part ACV, 3 parts water. Make it cold – and let it hit the back of your throat. I keep a premixed container in my fridge and drink it first thing in the morning, and last thing before I go to bed. Helps my digestive system. STEP FIVE: Melatonin, Lavender + Sleep Mask –
I take a 3 mg melatonin 30 min before I need to go to bed. I also drip a few drops of Lavender Aromatherapy Essential Oil on a silk sleep mask and as long as my anxiety lets me sleep 🙂 If my brain starts running after all of this…. more melatonin!! FMI: Melatonin
